MEDICAL PEELS

Medical peels are professional procedures performed in aesthetic medicine clinics, which have incomparably stronger impact than peels available in drugstores. Such procedures allows not only for intensive exfoliation of the epidermis but also complex improvement of skin appearance and reduction of visibility of undesired skin lesions. Medical peel is matched to the type of skin and its current needs, which allows for individualised treatment.

Medical peel procedures consist in application of a preparation on a properly prepared skin. A physician decides which acids will be the best; they also adjust concentration of the acids and the time of their impact on the skin. In certain cases, the peel may be applied several times during one procedure – the preparation is applied for a specified time and washed off, after which another layer is applied. Such a wide range of possibilities in performing the procedure allows for achieving gradual impact of acids and an optimal effect.

TYPES OF MEDICAL PEELS

1

YELLOW PEEL

Yellow Peel is medical peel with delicate yet very effective impact. The peel can be used both by young and mature people. This versatile medical peel an refresh the skin, even skin tone, reduce visibility of hyperpigmentation or increased seborrhoea. Yellow Peel procedure is also used in procedures that smooth acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles or skin flabbiness. The peel has a wide range of applications – it can be used on the face, neck, cleavage or hands. Thanks to a delicate formula, the peel may be used even on the delicate area around the eyes.
Yellow Peel is a multi-phase procedure. In the first stage the skin is prepared for the peel by being thoroughly cleansed with a special preparation. At the next stage of the procedure superficial peel is applied on the skin to ensure the effect of exfoliation of the top layers of the epidermis. This preparation consists of two exfoliating acids: 40% glycolic acid and 10% salicylic acid. The preparation is applied for several minutes. The last stage of the procedure is application of the proper Yellow Peel preparation, containing such active compounds as retinoic acid and vitamin C, which are restore uniform colour and radiance, and also stimulate synthesis of collagen and elastin fibres. Moreover, azelaic acid, kojic acid and phytic acid reduce hyperpigmentation and prevent further hyperpigmentation by regulating activity of melanocytes. Yellow Peel can be applied several times during one procedure.

2

TRICHLOROACETIC ACID

TCA trichloroacetic acid is the strongest organic acid used in aesthetic medicine procedures. TCA primarily exfoliates dead skin, which translates into reduction in visibility of hyperpigmentation, enlarged pores, acne scars and fine wrinkles. Secondly, the TCA peel stimulates fibroblasts activity, i.e. skin cells responsible for collagen fibres synthesis.
TCA acid is usually used in concentrations ranging from 20 to 50%, and the procedure is preceded by application of creams with alpha-hydroxy acids. Such preparation for the actual procedure is aimed at lowering the physiological pH of the skin and increasing effectiveness of TCA acid. The actual procedure consists of applying a preparation with TCA acid to the skin. A physician adjusts a concentration of trichloroacetic acid and the time of its impact on the skin to the expected results of the procedure. Under the influence of the acid, protein coagulation occurs, which is manifested by appearance of white coloration of the skin, called a “frost” effect. After 3-4 days further changes appear on the skin – it turns brown, and then intensively peel off. The exfoliation stage lasts for about a week, and after this process is completed, the skin is fully regenerated. A series of 4-6 TCA peel procedures is usually performed, with an interval of 4 weeks.

3

PRX T-33

PRX T-33 preparation contains trichloroacetic acid TCA and 5% kojic acid as well as hydrogen peroxide. It allows for complex improvement of skin appearance – brightening and reduction of hyperpigmentation, skin purification. Moreover, due to lifting and smoothing properties, this peel results in skin biorevitalisation. Its indisputable advantage is the lack or almost complete absence of a peeling effect due to a specially developed formula. Indications for the PRX T-33 peel are mainly acne scars, skin limpness and fine wrinkles, loss of tone and radiance, and skin hyperpigmentation. The peel is performed on the skin of the face, as well as the neck and cleavage and hands. In addition, the procedure can be performed on body areas affected by such undesirable skin lesions, as stretch marks and loss of skin firmness.
A PRX T-33 procedure can be performed in both young and mature individuals. In case of teenagers, the procedure reduces acne lesions and resulting acne scars. In case of young people, the peel reduces visibility of hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, and stretch marks. Mature people, on the other hand, may undergo PRX T-33 acid procedure to biorevitalise the skin – firm, smooth and rejuvenate a delicate eye area. PRX T-33 is often used before mesotherapy procedures in order to intensify their effects. In contrast to preparations containing higher concentrations of TCA acid, PRX T-33 peel does not cause skin peeling and requires several days of recovery. We recommend performing several procedures at intervals of one week.

CARBON PEEL

Carbon peel is a procedure that allows for effective skin cleansing This procedure combines the use of laser impact on the skin covered with a colloidal suspension of activated carbon. This non-invasive procedure can be performed throughout the year and does not require recovery. Carbon peel is performed in order to remove impurities, narrow enlarged pores and normalize the work of sebaceous glands. Deep skin cleansing is not the only effect of the procedure. Carbon peel restores uniformity of skin tone, supports reduction of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and also supports treatment of acne lesions. The procedure can be performed on the skin of the face, neck and cleavage. The procedure is not painful and does not require anaesthesia.
After thorough cleansing of the skin, an activated carbon mask is applied and then the skin is exposed to neodymium-yag laser. The laser emits a beam of light with a wavelength of 1064 nm, which leads to more efficient penetration of carbon particles into the skin, as well as the formation of “micro-explosions” on the surface of the skin. In this way, impurities accumulated in the skin pores are released, dead epidermis is removed and additionally the skin is stimulated to produce collagen. The effect of brightening and refreshing the skin is visible after the first procedure, and to achieve spectacular results a series of procedures should be repeated every 2 – 3 weeks.

5

COSMELAN/DERMAMELAN

Cosmelan and Dermamelan are unique depigmentation procedures which are started at the aesthetic medicine clinic and continued at home. Indications for performing these procedures is the desire to remove skin hyperpigmentation of various backgrounds – sun spots, age spots, chloasma or freckles.
Dermamelan procedure performed in the aesthetic medicine clinic consists of applying a brightening mask on the skin. The mask contains active compounds, such as kojic acid and azelaic acid, which are responsible for inhibiting tyrosinase activity – an enzyme involved in the synthesis of skin pigment melanin. Other active compounds of the mask include aloe or licorice extract, vitamins A, C and E and salicylic acid. The mask is washed off at home by the Patient, after which the treatment is continued at home by way of daily application of a brightening cream. The cream should be applied for at least 30 days and exposure to the sun during should be avoided this time.
The Cosmelan therapy regimen is the same – a brightening mask is applied first, followed by application of a skin lightening cream for at least 30 days. A difference between the two depigmentation treatments consists in different composition of the preparations. Dermamelan contains salicylic acid with an antibacterial effect, also distinguished by a higher content of active compounds. In both cases, you can expect reduction of hyperpigmentation and restoration of uniform skin tone, as well as skin smoothing. The effects can be noticed after a few days and the results are usually better than after laser treatment.

WHAT RESULTS CAN BE ACHIEVED?

The results of peel procedures depend on the type of acid used. Superficial peels effectively exfoliate dead skin, so the skin regains its beautiful appearance and is thoroughly cleansed. These types of acid peels have gentle impact, so recovery after the procedure does not last long and comes down to proper care of the slightly reddened skin. Medium and deep peels exfoliate top layers of the epidermis and deeper layers of the skin, which allows for a more advanced improvement in appearance of the skin, including its rejuvenation and reduced visibility of many skin defects, such as hyperpigmentation or shallow scars.
Medical peels allow for deep exfoliation of the epidermis, which provides immediate brightening of the skin and smoothing its surface. The effect of such superficial peels can be seen immediately after the skin has healed. In case of deeper peels, the skin requires a longer process of exfoliation and healing. The effects of skin surface revitalisation are visible after healing, and in addition, after a series of procedures, smoothing of fine wrinkles and skin elasticity can be observed, which is the effect of stimulation of collagen fibres synthesis.
Medical peels are usually performed as a series – a fully satisfactory effect can be achieved by performing several procedures (usually from 4 to 6 procedures). Time of the entire treatment is individual and depends on the initial skin condition, the expected results and the type of exfoliating acids used. In case of light acid peels, the procedure may be repeated even every week, while deep medical peel procedures are performed at monthly intervals. If necessary, the treatment may be repeated. A reminder procedure is usually performed once every six months or once a year.

BEFORE AND AFTER GALLERY

I highly recommend!

JUSTYNA GRADEK

PROCEDURE

During the consultation, we discuss the expected effect and chose the best method for the Patient. Before the procedure, an anaesthetic ointment is applied. During the procedure, an appropriate preparation is applied and then neutralised.

EFFECT

The effects of medical peels depend on the type of acids used. We always obtain deep exfoliation of the epidermis, which allows for achieving the effect of smooth, radiant complexion full of brightness. Peeling off deeper layers of the skin effectively reduces visibility of such undesirable skin lesions, as hyperpigmentation, shallow wrinkles and acne scars. Deep medical peels can also stimulate collagen and elastin fibre synthesis, which translates into increased skin thickness, elasticity and rejuvenation as well as lifting effect. Moreover, medical peels can be helpful in treatment of acne lesions, as well as in the reduction of dilated skin pores or increased skin seborrhoea. Medical peels performed on the body allow to make skin more elastic and reduce stretch marks.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE?

The procedure does not require much preparation.

Do not consume alcohol, caffeine or drugs 24 hours before the procedure.

Do not sunbathe for a week before the procedure.

RECOVERY

Healing process varies, depending on the preparation used. Redness, swelling and peeling of the skin may occur. In each case, a physician informs the Patient about the expected course of healing.
