Carbon peel is a procedure which consists in exfoliating dead epidermis. This procedure involves application of a carbon mask and the action of the Q-Switch laser on the skin. Thanks to this combination, carbon particles penetrate deep into the skin, improving its appearance and deeply cleansing it.
Carbon peel is a unique type of peel which allows for exfoliation of dead epidermis, cleansing pores and normalising the work of sebaceous glands. The procedure is performed in order to smooth the skin, thoroughly cleanse it, illuminate it and restore its uniform colour. Such a complex effect is possible thanks to the use of the Q-Switch laser, which impacts the skin and the previously applied carbon mask. Activation of carbon particles produces the effect of deep penetration of carbon into the skin, which allows for removal of all impurities. In turn, ablation leads to effective exfoliation of dead epidermis and smoothing of the skin.
Carbon peel is a non-invasive procedure, it is not accompanied by significant pain, and no recovery is required after the procedure. The procedure may be repeated if necessary. Carbon peel is most commonly performed on the face, with other popular locations being the cleavage and the back. It is a very safe method of skin cleansing, revitalisation and rejuvenation. The procedure can be performed in both young and mature people. It should be remembered, however, that the use of photosensitizing preparations is a contraindication for carbon peel.

The indication for carbon peel procedure can be young skin care as well as mature skin with visible signs of ageing.

Indications for carbon peel also include reduction of visibility of discolouration or acne scars. The procedure can also help to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles or the first signs of skin ageing. Carbon peel can be performed in order to unify skin tone, so people with grey complexion should opt for it. Another indication for carbon peeling may also be a desire to stimulate regenerative processes, activate cell metabolism and blood circulation. Moreover, the procedure can be performed in order to exfoliate dead epidermis, which is supposed to enable better penetration of nutritional cosmetics into the skin.
Carbon peel can be performed on the skin of the face as well as the cleavage or the back. The peel procedure consists of two stages. First, the skin is thoroughly cleansed and then a carbon mask is applied. It is a colloidal suspension of carbon particles which penetrate deep into the skin pores. Carbon has a very valuable property – it absorbs all impurities, deeply cleansing the skin. The mask remains on the skin for 10-15 minutes, after which the skin is exposed to Q-Switched Nd: Yag laser. The laser produces two beneficial effects on the skin: photothermolysis and photoablation.
Initially, the use of the laser involves a thermal phase, which leads to heating of carbon molecules. As a result, they can penetrate deep into the skin; absorption of impurities on the carbon particles is also increased. At the next stage of a carbon peel procedure, the laser emits a wave with the length of 1064 nm which causes photoablation. Carbon microparticles undergo dynamic disintegration which is accompanied by effective removal of all impurities, exfoliation of dead epidermis and skin smoothing effect.
Immediately after the procedure, the skin may be reddened and tightened; these symptoms should disappear spontaneously. Post-treatment skin care consists mainly of avoiding exposure to the sun for four weeks after the procedure. For the first few days, the Patient should not use the sauna or swimming pool, as well as hot baths. Proper skin care is also important. The use of alcohol-based cosmetics, which can irritate the skin, as well as the use of scrubs is not recommended; however, a good idea is using soothing preparations based on panthenol.
