LIP AUGMENTATION

Full and firm lips are the attribute of femininity. But if you are not naturally blessed with prominent lips, not everything seems to be lost

Hyaluronic acid injection is a 15-minute procedure that gives spectacular results. The result can appear very natural or be really significant, it all depends on your preferences. We can also correct asymmetry and improve the shape and contour of your lips.

During the consultation, we analyse your natural shape, predisposition and facial features to achieve the most perfect results.

At Princesse®, we augment lips using Russian, Mildiani Lips, Natural Kiss, Baby Doll and classic methods, as well as methods tailored specifically for men.

At Princesse®, we guarantee that your lips will not look like a “duck beak”. However, you must be aware that if your lips have been improperly enlarged at another clinic, the correction will not always be possible and the physician may recommend removal of old hyaluronic acid first.

During lip procedures, we use the highest quality fillers.

LIP AUGMENTATION METHODS

1

RUSSIAN METHOD

The Russian method is the flattest of all available methods, with strong contour outlining and strongly elevated lips with a “keyhole” effect, i.e. the upper lip slightly revealing the front teeth. This method gives a spectacular but quite unnatural effect.

2

MILDIANI LIPS METHOD

Our own method combining many techniques. The Patient may choose the shape of the mouth, a degree of contour outlining, the shape of the Cupid’s bow. The expected size can be precisely determined. This is the most advanced lip augmentation technique available.

3

BABY DOLL METHOD

Lips are quite flat, with clear contour outlining, but not with such accentuated Cupid’s bow as in the Russian method. The sides of the mouth are also clearly elevated, the face gains a cheerful character, the lips are visibly, but still naturally, enlarged. The lips assume a bow shape.

4

NATURAL KISS METHOD

This is the most natural method of lip augmentation. We leave the natural shape of lips, increasing their volume. In case of this method, lips are shaped with a cannula, which makes it very safe, and also reduces postoperative swelling and bruising.

5

CLASSIC METHOD

It is rarely used nowadays as it causes protrusion of the lips and a so-called “duck beak”. However, this method is still used, e.g. in case of mandibular prognathism and other malocclusions, when we want to emphasise one of the lips to obtain a harmonious facial profile.

6

X-LIPS METHOD

Male lip augmentation is quite a challenge. The effects usually have to look perfectly natural, yet be good and long lasting. We have developed our own method of male lip augmentation called X-Lips. The lips become fuller, the face gains a younger look, but the effect is not exaggerated.

WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID?

Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally occurring in the body, and its most valuable property is hygroscopy, or the ability to bind water. One molecule of the acid binds about 250 water molecules, which is about a thousand times more than the mass of this one molecule. Today, hyaluronic acid is created in laboratories, where it is produced by bacteria. During the manufacturing process it is purified from bacterial proteins. The level of purification influences acid quality.

Hyaluronic acid may be non-cross-linked or cross-linked. Non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid is used for skin hydration, mesotherapy, while cross-linked acid is a filler and bio-stimulator. The acid is cross-linked with BDDE or PEG. This “organizes” its particles and as a result it is released very slowly in the skin, allowing us to enjoy the long-lasting effects of fillers.

A degree of crosslinking determines the period of acid effectiveness. The more compact it is, the slower it will dissolve, meaning the longer it will last in the tissue. Soft acids remain in the tissues for about 6-8 months, dense acids for 12-24 months. Soft ones are used as tear through fillers, medium ones for lips and wrinkles, while hard ones for volumetric procedures, such as jawline, chin or cheekbone correction.

In aesthetic medicine, we do not use pure hyaluronic acid, but preparations containing 20-30 milligrams of HA per 1 gram of preparation, i.e. 2-3%. The rest is saline and auxiliary substances, including stabilisers and crosslinking agents.

Hyaluronic acid itself is very safe. The risk of complications results mainly from its improper administration. The most dangerous complication occurs when the acid is injected in the wrong place and occludes the lumen of the main artery in the site of injection. Blood stops flowing to the skin, causing necrosis development over time. An experienced physician can immediately recognise this complication and react by administering a hyaluronic acid dissolving agent, which will prevent necrosis.

JUSTYNA GRADEK

PROCEDURE

During the consultation, we discuss the expected effect and chose the best method for the Patient. Before the procedure, an anaesthetic ointment is applied to significantly reduce pain sensations. A Japanese technique of needle insertion ensures high comfort of the procedure. On request, we can also perform topical (dental) anaesthesia, which completely removes the sensation in the treatment site.

During the procedure, we use a very thin needle to introduce hyaluronic acid under the skin. At the end of the procedure lips are gently massaged and the Patient receives written recommendations with documentation of the origin of the injected preparation.

RECOVERY

The lip healing process is very different, depending on natural physiognomy and the applied method.

Usually immediately after the procedure the lips swell, which intensifies in the evening and the next day. With more invasive methods, such as Russian or Mildiani Lips the, lips may swell so much that they even double in volume! In addition, hematomas and bruises may occur. Pain sensations after the procedure are minor. Large swelling lasts for about 2-3 days and subsides after about a week. During that time, you should drink a lot, because hyaluronic acid binds water and its lack in the body may result in a weaker effect.

During the healing process, irregularities may occur due to uneven accumulation of plasma. The Patient may feel small lumps, which soften up to 2-3 weeks. Any asymmetries should also disappear at the same time.

To reduce swelling, you can apply arnica ointment or an ointment such as Altacet on your lips from day two. However, do not put ice on your lips to prevent the acid from clumping and follow the lip massage instructions you received in the clinic. You can also apply make-up from day two to hide the haematomas.

The lips are fully healed after about a month. You can then see their final shape and size – they usually lose about 30% of the volume that was visible immediately after the procedure, even before the swelling occurred.

If the lips turn out to be too small, another lip augmentation procedure can be performed after a month.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE?

The procedure does not require much preparation.

Do not consume alcohol, caffeine or drugs 24 hours before the procedure.

One week before the procedure, do not take common painkillers, as they thin the blood and may cause more bruising after insertions. Garlic and onion have a similar effect.

If you take NSAIDs, talk to your GP and ask if you can discontinue them two weeks before your procedure. If your GP refuses, don’t discontinue your medication on your own! The procedure can still be performed, but you must expect more bruising.

Two weeks before the procedure, you can start taking vitamin C, which will strengthen capillary walls and thus reduce formation of bruises.

EFFECT

After the augmentation procedure, the lips are beautifully filled, elastic, regain their natural youthful elasticity and become a decoration of the face. Depending on the chosen method, they are natural or clearly outlined. The face looks younger.

Lip hyaluronic acid fillers last from 6 to 24 months. Assumedly, this depends on several factors.

For first time lip augmentation, the acid will last for 6-8 months. The skin captures hyaluronan molecules in an effort to moisturise. The good news is that once it becomes saturated with the acid, it won’t absorb it at that rate, so each subsequent injection will last longer, provided you don’t wait until the acid from the first injection is completely absorbed. Metabolism significantly affects how long the acid remains in your body. Hyperthyroidism can reduce it even two times.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

There are not many contraindications to lip augmentation, but they must be taken into consideration. Below you will find the most important of them.

Asymptomatic carrier of hepatitis B or hepatitis C.

Viral hepatitis often affects autoimmune reactions. It mainly depends on the stage of the disease as well as its activity. Only your attending physician may decide whether you are eligible for a aesthetic medicine procedure. Ask them for a written consent for the procedure. Only then, we can perform the procedure.

Diabetes.

In case of advanced diabetes wound healing is impaired. However, when treated and controlled, diabetes is not a problem. If you have diabetes, please ask your attending physician for a written consent for the cosmetic medicine procedure and present it to us on the day of the procedure.

Active cancer.

Cancer that occurred less than 5 years prior to the procedure.

Chemo- and radiotherapy

Autoimmune diseases apart from thyroid disease, acquired vitiligo, and alopecia areata. For example, these diseases include psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, myasthenia gravis, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, sarcoidosis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis.
